Description
CSX Corporation, operating through its subsidiaries, delivers extensive rail-based freight transportation services. Its offerings include traditional rail services, the shipment of intermodal containers and trailers, and other transport options such as rail-to-truck transfers and bulk commodity operations. The company transports a diverse range of commodities, including chemicals, agricultural and food products, automotive goods, minerals, forest products, fertilizers, metals, and equipment. Additionally, it delivers coal, coke, and iron ore to electricity-generating power plants, steel manufacturers, and industrial facilities, while also exporting coal through deep-water ports. CSX also provides intermodal transportation services, moving manufactured consumer goods through its network of around 30 terminals, and offers drayage services for the pickup and delivery of these shipments. It supports the automotive industry with distribution centers and storage facilities, and connects non-rail-served customers by facilitating transfers of products like plastics and ethanol from rail to trucks. The company operates an extensive rail network, spanning roughly 19,500 route miles, which serves population centers across 23 states east of the Mississippi River, the District of Columbia, and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. Its operations are supported by approximately 3,500 owned and leased locomotives, and the network includes track connections to various production and distribution facilities. CSX Corporation was established in 1978 and is headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida.
