NiSource Inc. is a major energy holding company operating as a regulated utility across the United States, providing both natural gas and electricity. Its business is structured into two primary segments: Gas Distribution Operations and Electric Operations. Through its Gas Distribution division, the company supplies natural gas to roughly 853,000 customers in northern Indiana, in addition to serving approximately 2.4 million residential, commercial, and industrial consumers across Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Kentucky, and Maryland. This extensive gas network comprises around 54,600 miles of main distribution pipelines, alongside individual service lines, and an additional 1,000 miles of transmission main pipelines. On the electricity front, NiSource is responsible for generating, transmitting, and distributing power to about 483,000 customers situated in 20 counties within northern Indiana. It also engages in wholesale electric sales and transmission services. The company's diverse power generation assets include: Coal-fired facilities with capacities of 722 megawatts (MW) in Wheatfield and 455 MW in Michigan City. A combined cycle gas turbine capable of 563 MW located in West Terre Haute. Natural gas generating units producing 155 MW, also in Wheatfield. Hydroelectric plants contributing 9 MW in Carroll County and 7 MW in White County. Wind farms providing 102 MW and 302 MW, both situated in White County, Indiana. Originally established in 1847 as NIPSCO Industries, Inc., the company rebranded to NiSource Inc. in April 1999. Its corporate headquarters are located in Merrillville, Indiana.
