The company's operations are structured into six key segments: Wisconsin, Illinois, Other States, Electric Transmission, Non-Utility Energy Infrastructure, and Corporate and Other. WEC Energy is involved in a comprehensive range of energy activities, encompassing the generation and distribution of electricity using a diverse mix of sources. These include traditional fuels like coal, natural gas, and oil, as well as sustainable options such as hydroelectric, wind, solar, and biomass. Additionally, the company manages electric transmission, provides retail natural gas distribution, handles natural gas transportation, and produces and sells steam. As of December 31, 2021, WEC Energy maintained an extensive infrastructure network. This included approximately 35,800 miles of overhead and 35,600 miles of underground electrical distribution lines, supported by 440 electric distribution substations and 510,500 line transformers. Its natural gas network comprised 50,900 miles of distribution mains, 1,200 miles of transmission mains, 2.3 million lateral service connections, and 500 distribution and transmission gate stations. Furthermore, the company controlled underground natural gas storage facilities with a substantial working capacity of 68.2 billion cubic feet. WEC Energy Group, Inc. was founded in 1981. It was previously known as Wisconsin Energy Corporation before officially changing its name in June 2015. The company's primary corporate offices are located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
