Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), an Indian energy conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai, traces its origins to 1952, operating initially as Bharat Refineries Limited before adopting its current name in August 1977. At its core, the company refines crude oil and distributes a broad spectrum of petroleum products throughout India. Its operations are structured into two principal divisions: Downstream Petroleum and Exploration and Production of Hydrocarbons. BPCL commands a vast retail network of 18,622 fuel stations, supplying petrol, diesel, automotive liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and compressed natural gas (CNG) to consumers. Beyond road transportation fuels, it delivers Bharatgas to approximately 80 million households and markets its comprehensive range of MAK lubricants, catering to both automotive (including engine oils, gear oils, and greases) and industrial requirements. The company is also a significant provider of jet fuel and ancillary services to airlines and operates strategically located oil refineries in Mumbai, Bina, and Kochi. Its diverse product offerings for industrial clients include white oil, black oil, bitumen, sulphur, petcoke, propylene, petrochemicals, and solvents, in addition to offering bunkering services. BPCL's upstream involvement encompasses participating interests in eighteen hydrocarbon blocks, with an equal division between domestic and international ventures. Furthermore, it engages in the import and export of petroleum products, manages a 2,596 km multi-product pipeline infrastructure, and is active in the natural gas sector.
