ContraFect Corporation is a biotechnology firm operating at the clinical stage, dedicated to the discovery and development of innovative therapeutic proteins and antibodies. Its primary mission is to address life-threatening and drug-resistant infectious diseases within the United States. The company's most advanced candidate, Exebacase, a specialized enzyme known as a lysin, is currently undergoing Phase III clinical trials. This drug aims to treat bacteremia caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Beyond Exebacase, ContraFect is also progressing CF-296, an engineered lysin designed to combat invasive Staphylococcus aureus infections. These include challenging biofilm-related infections affecting prosthetic joints and indwelling medical devices, as well as osteomyelitis. Furthermore, CF-370, an investigational anti-bacterial therapy, has entered Phase 1 clinical trials. It targets a range of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections, such as ventilator-associated pneumonia, bloodstream infections, complex urinary tract infections, and infections arising from surgery. In an effort to expand patient access, ContraFect has launched a program providing Exebacase for individuals with persistent methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia who are also suffering from COVID-19. A licensing agreement with The Rockefeller University further supports its efforts to identify novel lysin therapeutic compounds effective against gram-negative pathogens. ContraFect Corporation was founded in 2008 and maintains its headquarters in Yonkers, New York.
