Description
Coal India Limited, an Indian enterprise, along with its various subsidiary operations, is primarily engaged in the extraction, processing, and distribution of coal and diverse coal-based products across India. Its extensive product portfolio includes coking coal, vital for steel manufacturing and various metallurgical processes, as well as for the creation of hard coke. Semi-coking coal is also offered, serving as a valuable blending component in steel production, merchant coke facilities, and other specialized metallurgical industries. A significant portion of their output comprises non-coking coal, specifically thermal-grade varieties essential for power generation. This type of coal also fuels sectors like cement, fertilizer, glass, ceramics, paper, chemicals, and brick production, in addition to general heating applications. Furthermore, the company supplies beneficiated and washed non-coking coal, primarily for electricity plants, and other beneficiated non-coking coal grades for use in cement, sponge iron, and various industrial units. Middling products are also provided, finding utility in electricity generation, domestic heating, brick manufacturing, cement factories, and a range of industrial settings. Even residual materials, known as 'rejects,' are repurposed for fluidized bed combustion boilers in power plants, road construction, briquette production, and land reclamation projects. Established in 1973, Coal India Limited maintains its corporate headquarters in Kolkata, India.
