Description
ENGIE SA is a prominent entity in the realms of electricity production, natural gas distribution, and various energy-related services. Its business activities are structured across several core divisions: Renewables, Networks, Energy Solutions, Thermal, Supply, Nuclear, and other minor segments. The Renewables division is dedicated to clean energy generation, encompassing everything from securing funding and construction to the ongoing operation and maintenance of facilities utilizing diverse energy sources such as hydroelectric, both onshore and offshore wind, photovoltaic solar, biomass, and geothermal power. The Networks segment is tasked with overseeing and advancing critical electricity and gas infrastructure, which includes the management and expansion of gas and electricity transmission networks, natural gas distribution systems inside and outside of Europe, subterranean natural gas storage facilities in Europe, and regasification terminals in France and Chile. The Energy Solutions segment focuses on the development and oversight of localized energy grids aimed at producing sustainable, low-carbon energy, alongside providing complementary services. The Thermal segment is involved in generating power from thermal assets, operating power plants predominantly fueled by natural gas or coal, and managing pumped-storage facilities. It also undertakes the financing, building, and operation of desalination plants and is engaged in the advancement of hydrogen production technologies. The Supply division is responsible for distributing and selling natural gas and electricity to a broad clientele, including corporate clients, individual customers, and residential households. Finally, Engie's Nuclear segment specifically deals with generating electricity through nuclear power. The company, which was formerly known as GDF SUEZ S.A., officially changed its name to ENGIE SA in April 2015. Founded in 1880, its corporate headquarters are located in Courbevoie, France.
