Sempra is an energy-focused holding company, established in 1998 and headquartered in San Diego, California, with operations spanning both the United States and international markets. The company adopted its current name, Sempra, in July 2021, having previously been known as Sempra Energy. Through its San Diego Gas & Electric Company division, Sempra delivers both electricity and natural gas. This segment supplies electric services to roughly 3.6 million people and natural gas to approximately 3.3 million residents within a 4,100 square mile area. The Southern California Gas Company unit is responsible for owning and managing a comprehensive natural gas network, encompassing distribution, transmission, and storage facilities. This extensive infrastructure provides natural gas to an estimated 22 million individuals across a vast 24,000 square mile region. Furthermore, the Sempra Texas Utilities segment concentrates on the regulated transmission and distribution of electricity. It serves 3.8 million residential and commercial customers and oversees a substantial grid of 140,000 miles of transmission and distribution lines. Its transmission system alone features 18,249 circuit miles of lines, along with 1,174 transmission and distribution substations. This segment also facilitates connections to 130 third-party power generation sites, which collectively contribute 45,403 megawatts of capacity.
