Idemitsu Kosan Co.,Ltd., a diversified global energy and materials company founded in Tokyo, Japan, in 1911, conducts extensive business operations both domestically and internationally. Its broad portfolio spans petroleum, basic chemicals, high-performance materials, power generation and renewable energy, and natural resources. The Petroleum division manages the sourcing of crude oil, its refining into various products—including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, automotive and industrial lubricants, heavy fuel oil, and aviation and marine fuels—and the operation of hydrogen fueling stations. In the Basic Chemicals sector, the company manufactures and distributes fundamental compounds like olefins (e.g., ethylene, propylene, butadiene) and aromatics (e.g., benzene, styrene monomer, mixed xylene, paraxylene), along with other chemical products. The Functional Materials segment is dedicated to the research, development, production, and sale of advanced items, encompassing automotive, industrial, and marine lubricants and greases; specialized engineering plastics, adhesive compounds, derivative products, and solvents; electronic materials such as OLEDs; asphalt; agricultural inputs like microbial pesticides and soil amendments; livestock-related supplies; and components for solid-state lithium-ion batteries. Its Power and Renewable Energy operations involve running conventional thermal power plants and actively developing and operating clean energy sources, specifically solar, wind, and biomass facilities. This segment also oversees the supply, wholesale, and retail of electricity, conducts research and manufacturing of CIS thin-film solar modules, and sells comprehensive solar power systems. Finally, the Resources division is responsible for the exploration, development, and extraction of oil and natural gas, the production and commercialization of coal and uranium, the operation of geothermal power facilities, and the sale of electricity and steam.
