Verizon Communications Inc., operating through its subsidiaries, delivers a broad spectrum of communication, technology, information, and entertainment solutions globally to individuals, businesses, and government entities. Its Consumer division provides both prepaid and postpaid mobile service plans, internet access for laptops and tablets, and wireless devices such as smartphones, other handsets, and connected accessories like smartwatches. This segment also offers residential fixed-line services including internet, video, and voice, and sells network access to mobile virtual network operators. As of December 31, 2021, this segment reported approximately 115 million wireless retail connections, 7 million wireline broadband subscribers, and 4 million Fios video connections. The Business segment caters to enterprise customers with network connectivity offerings like private networking, private cloud access, virtual and software-defined networking, and internet services. It also furnishes IP-based voice and video solutions, unified communications and collaboration tools, and customer contact center systems. Additionally, this segment supplies a range of managed and data security services; domestic and international voice and data solutions such as calling, messaging, conferencing, and private line networks; customer premises equipment; installation, maintenance, and site services; and Internet of Things products and services. By December 31, 2021, the Business segment served around 27 million wireless retail postpaid connections and 477 thousand wireline broadband connections. Established in 1983 and headquartered in New York, New York, the company was initially named Bell Atlantic Corporation before officially becoming Verizon Communications Inc. in June 2000.
