The Boston Partners Long/Short Research Fund actively manages its portfolio by acquiring shares of companies its investment adviser believes are undervalued, while simultaneously taking short positions in stocks deemed overvalued. The capital derived from these short sales (which involves selling borrowed securities not yet owned by the fund) is then strategically allocated to highly liquid, short-term cash instruments. This generates an additional yield that typically hovers just below the federal funds rate. The fund's investments, encompassing both its long and short holdings, extend across a diverse range of companies, from large and mid-sized to small and even micro-capitalization firms. It also has the flexibility to invest in other securities that can be converted into common stock.
