It also offers ultra-thin and ultra-flat glass wafers and substrates, tinted eyewear, and products for radiation shielding. Its diverse customer base includes the mobile consumer electronics, semiconductor optics, aerospace and defense, and telecommunications sectors, in addition to suppliers of radiation shielding and sunglasses. Through its Environmental Technologies segment, Corning supplies ceramic substrates and filters designed to control emissions in a variety of mobile, gasoline, and diesel engine applications. The Life Sciences segment markets laboratory products, encompassing a wide array of consumables like plastic vessels, liquid handling plastics, specialized surfaces, cell culture media, and serum, alongside general labware and equipment. These products are sold under well-known brands such as Corning, Falcon, Pyrex, and Axygen. Founded in 1851, the company was initially known as Corning Glass Works before adopting its current name, Corning Incorporated, in April 1989.
