The fund aims to deliver a substantial total investment return, achieved through a blend of ongoing income and appreciation in asset value. It typically allocates at least 80% of its net assets—including any borrowed capital for investment—to securities designed to protect against inflation. A significant portion of these holdings will be U.S. Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS). A key characteristic of TIPS is that their principal value is periodically modified to reflect inflation, and the repayment of the initial bond principal at maturity is guaranteed by the U.S. government.
