SunOpta Inc. (STKL), a global enterprise founded in 1973 and headquartered in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, specializes in the production and sale of a diverse array of plant-based and fruit-derived food and beverage products. The company caters to a broad customer base, encompassing retail chains, foodservice distributors, branded food manufacturers, and other food producers worldwide. (It was previously known as Stake Technology Ltd. before adopting the SunOpta Inc. name in October 2003.) The company's operations are divided into two key segments: 1. Plant-Based Foods and Beverages: This division provides an extensive range of plant-derived drinks and liquid or dry ingredients utilizing bases such as almond, soy, coconut, oat, and hemp. Its offerings also include broths, teas, and various nutritional beverages. Furthermore, this segment is involved in packaging dry-roasted and oil-roasted in-shell sunflower and sunflower kernels, as well as processing and marketing raw sunflower products (both in-shell and kernel) for both human food and animal feed applications. 2. Fruit-Based Foods and Beverages: This segment focuses on frozen fruit products. It supplies individually quick frozen (IQF) fruits like strawberries, blueberries, mangoes, pineapples, and other berry blends for retail distribution. Additionally, it offers IQF and bulk frozen fruits, including purées, toppings, and smoothies, for the foodservice industry, alongside custom fruit preparations tailored for industrial clients. This division also manufactures a variety of fruit snacks, such as bars, twists, ropes, and bite-sized items.
