TransAlta Corporation is an energy utility specializing in the generation, distribution, and commercialization of electrical power. Its operations are structured across several key divisions: Hydro, Wind and Solar, Gas, Energy Transition, and Energy Marketing. The Hydro segment manages approximately 922 megawatts (MW) of wholly-owned hydroelectric generating assets located in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario. Its Wind and Solar division encompasses a net ownership of roughly 2,057 MW of proprietary wind and solar electricity-generating capacity, along with integrated battery storage solutions. These facilities are situated across Canadian provinces (Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Québec), various U.S. states (Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Wyoming), and Western Australia. The Gas segment holds a net ownership stake of about 2,775 MW in company-owned gas-fired electrical generation plants, located in Alberta, Ontario, Michigan, and Western Australia. The Energy Transition division oversees a net ownership interest of approximately 671 MW of coal-based electrical generation capacity. This segment also operates the Skookumchuck hydro facility in Centralia and is actively involved in the Highvale mine, including its reclamation activities. Finally, the Energy Marketing segment focuses on the trading of electricity, natural gas, and environmental commodities. TransAlta provides services to a diverse clientele spanning various sectors, such as commercial real estate, municipal services, manufacturing, industrial operations, hospitality, finance, and the oil and gas industries. Founded in 1909, TransAlta Corporation's corporate headquarters are located in Calgary, Canada.
